Lakeview

LAKEVIEW

Belmont Harbor  Find peaceful views of the boats and the lake, a large grassy area for games and picnics on both sides of the harbor, and a small park with little boats for kids to get imaginative with while climbing.  The lake front path that runs in front of the harbor has one of the best views of Chicago skyline in the city!

Hamlin Park  This amazing park in West Lakeview covers all the bases!  There is a large playground with a climbing structure that rivals most in the city, tennis courts, a gymnasium baseball fields and an area for dogs to run.  One major perk for parents is that the field house has bathrooms!  Hamlin Park offers tons of seasonal activities and sports, and many fun clubs and leagues for kids to have fun and make new friends.  Check the Chicago Park District website for schedules and offerings.

Diversey Range & Mini Golf  Practice your swing at the driving range or challenge each other through a round of miniature golf.  Diversey Range offers many group and private lessons for all ages and skills.  BONUS- Bacino’s Italian Grill is right next to the Driving Range for drinks and food and a great spot in warmer weather for outdoor dining with kids!  There are grassy areas to play and many times yard games set up!

Wrigley Field  Wrigley Field is one of the most iconic baseball stadiums in the country!  A family day at a ball game has always been a favorite for Chicago parents and with the renovations and additions since the Cubs won the World Series in 2016 it’s become a fantastic area to visit even off season!  Gallagher Way next to the stadium hosts outdoor movies in the summer, ice skating in the winter and has plenty of kid friendly dining options.

Lincoln Park

LINCOLN PARK

Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool  Beautiful and somewhat secretive, this is a calm hideaway from the noise of city life.

Chicago History Museum  Several permanent and temporary exhibits, the largest of which is “Chicago: Crossroads of America,” a treasure trove of historical objects, including a chunk of the original Fort Dearborn.

Lincoln Park  Chicago’s largest public park is gorgeous and sprawling!  At almost a third larger than New York’s Central Park it hosts many different baseball fields, tennis courts, running paths with workout stops, play grounds, and so much more!

Lincoln Park Conservatory  The conservatory hosts more than 40,000 plants representing around 200 species under a gorgeous glass dome and throughout greenhouse rooms just northwest of the zoo.  This is a perfect place for a quick visit on cold days!  My kids love stopping in for a warm up while visiting the fish, and tropical flowers.

A favorite place to run and release energy is across the gardens between the Lincoln park conservatory and the Zoo.

Lincoln Park Zoo  Visit over 1,000 animals, from apes to zebras, at one of the only few free zoos left in the country!  My kids love the farm at the zoo and many days you can catch Mr. Singer preforming sing alongs for the kids!  Check website for times.

Oz Park  Located right behind Lincoln Park High School, Oz Park is just what you think: a park dedicated to The Wizard of Oz!  In 1976, the park was officially named Oz Park in honor of Lyman Frank Baum (1856-1919), the author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Baum settled in Chicago in 1891 several miles west of what is now the park.  Oz Park is home to Dorothy’s Playground, a large wooden play structure, as well as baseball fields, tennis courts The Emerald Garden, and walking paths.

The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum  Hands-on interactive displays on ecosystems and wildlife engage kids, and don’t miss visiting the beautiful butterflies of the 2,700-square-foot Judy Istock Butterfly Haven- my kids love this!  Many times they land right on you!
